Perhaps the worst sail of the year. Pitched up in torrential rain having been delayed at home until lunchtime. Read my tide table wrong and thought I'd arrive mid-tide on the rise. Actually arrived pretty much on hight tide. 4-5 people packing up 5m having had a brilliant sail. Got rained on, rain stopped so thought wind was coming back. Rigged 6.5m and the wind kept coming so thought I'd be OK. Launched, planed out then the wind dropped. It was still as bumpy as you would get in 5m weather and there was the strongest current that I have encountered at Pevensey. Ended up many breakwaters down. Spent an hour on and off the plane making the ground back against the current. Was only one breakwater away from where I launched and I should have called it a day, but oh no. Went out for that famous 'one more run' and the wind dropped to nothing. Was getting washed downwind at a hell of a pace and barely moving forward to get back to the beach. A piece of breaking swell knocked me in and uphauling in the bumps was proving difficult. In the end did a very lightwind waterstart holding the foot of the sail - my god I was lucky to get up. Made it back to the beach and had a half hour walk of shame - something I haven't done for at least 10 years. Pants.
